is it necessary to keep all the fonts that come on the macbook. there are chinese fonts there that i will never use.

If you don't plan on ever using an Asian language or viewing Asian web sites, you can remove all Asian fonts; Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

It's not necessary to keep any fonts you don't use but just make sure you will never use them. If you have doubts you can always back them up before deleting them.

Also if you have a lot of fonts you should validate them with the Font Book application that comes with Mac OS. I found a few bad corrupted fonts when I did. Having too many fonts can slow down your computer so there is no reason to keep corrupted fonts you don't use. It's the same if you have duplicate fonts.
