Hard Drive Failure

On startup the osx icon appears with spinning question mark (unable to locate hard drive for booting)

I've tried to locate it via disk utility/external plugin etc, no show.

I can only assume the HD has finally collapsed?

all is not lost tho, running backup system via external drive.

Always nice to have a backup when the hard drive decides to fail. Looks like you need a new one.
