Hello--I have a MacBook (one of the silver ones from fall 2009, but technically not a Pro). Recently, while watching video, a loud, crackling noise started coming from the system. My best guess is that it's the fans. I've checked the RPM, and they're only running at 2000 rpm. I have no outstanding print jobs, and cannot figure out why this noise is persisting. When the computer is shut down or asleep, there's obviously no sound. Any ideas?

Hi there
There are really only two moving parts in your mac. The hard drive and the fans.
If you mute the sound do you still get the noise?

The RPM isn't really a good indicator of a noisy fan. Cracking doesn't really sound like a fan problem. Could be a speakers. Need more info really.
