My machine:

iMac, version 10.5.8
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I want to purge the hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I found information online on how to clean out the PC, but can't find it for a Mac.

Thanks!

Probably because the Mac does not need a laxative. What are you trying to sort out - that may be a better place to start.

A warning: The following procedure will erase all your data, programs, and OS X. If you need to preserve anything, back it up first.

The best way to clean your Mac hard drive of all its data is to boot your machine with your install DVD. After it boots, escape from the install routine and select Utilities, Disk Utility from the top menu.

Erase the hard drive. If you wish, you can use the secure erase feature, however, anything over one secure erase pass is going to take a long time to complete.

Regards.
