It's far from dead. It powers close to 100% of all online video now and there is little sign that will change despite the increasing development of HTML5 alternatives. On top of this, the fact that a lack of Flash is the number one complaint of the iPad should be evidence enough that the general user wants it.

No, it is dead when you know Hulu and youtube are working on the HTML5 alternatives. Porn and other websites will follow soon...

Too soon to say ...
Technology is only ' dead ' when everybody has forgotten it ever existed and only Wikipedia remembers. :)

No, it's still far from dead. Regardless of whether or not YT or Hulu are working on alternatives, they still use Flash. Are gas powered engines dead because researchers are working on alternatives? No.

You have to remember that Flash is used outside of video as well.

Serously :), flash is just what all the above posters said. They described it very well. And yes it's not dead but I think it's bloated and not optimised for OS X anymore. And html 5 will come and render flash obselete in many circumstances.

And to McBie, I saw an old printing press once on the antiques roadshow. It was liek from 1850 or something. And I still remember seeing it. So by your definition it's not dead technology cause I remember it. Haha. Seriously I get your point though. Only when things are no longer used by the general public are they for most instances dead.
