Anyone out there have a similar issue? 1.8 iMac G5 works fine, then after a while the machine will not respond to commands, and I notice the Finder folders highlight in black. Weird. Cap's seem to be ok, though it's possible some are borderline issues, don't know as this is a first for me. Is this a PS or logic issue - can't be the hd, right? 3x LED's at boot, reset in O-F as well as Tech Tool gave everything a pass and the test ran 1-2 hours. Thanks.

You have a point. It's running 10.4.11 fully updated. I can install 10.5 but I've held off until I get some sort of conclusion somehow. I ran Applejack as well.

MacMini 14.3, 8.1 & 4.1, OS 13.5, 10.14, & 10.11 & 10.6; Macbook Pro 8.2, OS 10.12.
Repair permissions - with OnyX Titanium Software. Run maintenance scripts as well. Hopefully, that will sort out the access issue.

TechTool has mixed reviews in terms of its effectiveness with OS X, so in your situation I would use the Install Disk 1 to boot and run Disk Utility > First Aid to check for any possible hard drive problems.

OK great, thanks, I am hopeful the mac can be saved. It is in excellent condition otherwise.

I ran Onyx, then Diskwarrior, and I feel comfortable enough at this point to install 10.5
It certainly works better than before my post so thanks for the advice!
