backing up and restoring

this week. sometime. i will be getting my first ever macbook :-D
i have never, EVER backed up any computer and im quite a noob at it.
so if anyone wants to tell me what i need, how to do it, in very simple laymens terms thanks :)
perhaps even tell me what external harddrive i can get, for [hopefully] under 100$
thank you guys :-D

14" MacBook Pro M1 Pro, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD
You'll just need an external hard disk. The larger the better, but you should be able to get a decent sized one for less than $100 (I would guess around 320-500GB depending on where you shop).

Then, plug it into your Mac, turn on Time Machine and you're good to go. Time Machine does the rest.

well i know what an external hard drive is, but i got thrown off by the external hard disk ;-)
thanks for the help btw :)
