• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

How to convert AVCHD to DVD?

Hi, I have a MacBook and a Canon Vixia HG20. The videos are in AVCHD format and upload to iMovie 08 just fine.

My problem is...I want to get these files onto a standard DVD (still wondering why I got an HD camera in the first place!). Even a tiny 2 minute movie is way too much for a 4MB DVD.

Are there programs out there that can compress these files somehow? I have tons that I just need to get off of my computer and onto a DVD. Nothing fancy, just a matter of archiving. Most of my videos ended up on youtube anyway. Part of me is almost tempted to just load the small quicktime files onto a dvd but I know I'll regret it someday if I can't just play the dvd and watch it on tv.

Advice? Thanks!
