Accessing an external drive on a Mac via the network

Hi there,

I was wondering if it possible to access an external hard drive from windows xp on a mac that runs Mac OS X (10.3.9) via the network. If yes, does anybody now how to do that?

i just tried to figure out how to do it on windows xp, I was unsuccessful, but from another mac you click on the computer and select the external drive, you have to know the password to a user on the mac. I am thinking that this is still the case on windows, I will let you know later any more information.
