20" iMac (Mid-2007), 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, Snow Leopard.
Hello folks,

I'm new to this forum, so hello everybody. The reason I have joined is I am having some serious problems with my mid-2007 iMac which keeps crashing. The exact model in question is a 20" with 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM (currently installed) and running Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

The problem started around 2 weeks ago when the machine kernel paniced and went into a cycle of reboot and crash, thankfully the machine stayed up long enough for me on one occassion enabling me to rescue my data. I browsed the net on my netbook to see if I could diagnose the problem, I followed all the advice on resetting PRAM and verifying and repairing disc permissions, also I have taken out the 2 x 2GB RAM modules that I upgraded the machine with last September and replaced them with the original 1GB module that came with the machine, the machine also went through the Apple Hardware Test which it passed and a full reformat of the drive and reinstallation of the OS but to no avail, the problem persisted.

I brought the machine into the local Apple Premium Reseller here in Limerick, Ireland and explained all that I had done, they kept the machine for a week and did everything I as well as stripping down the machine to ensure everything was connected and seated correctly, they called me and said the machine was working for more than 24 hours without a panic. They only charged me €35 for their time and said that if the problem reoccured to call back as it would more than likely be the logic board that is at fault.

Anyway, before I do call back to them, I would be grateful if someone here who has the knowledge could look at the latest panic report and advise me if they can identify the problem from it. Many thanks in advance !

"mdworker" is spotlight indexing the drive. Not the cause of your problems.

"processor context corrupt" indicates to me that its the logic board, but I can't be certain of that from here.

Thanks for your reply mate.

The whole "processor context corrupt" thing hit me as well when I tried to decipher the log, if it is the logic board, it's going to be one heck of an expensive repair, near enough to €450 in fact.

The machine has been working again for the past few hours, however, owing to the intermittent nature of this problem my worries are far from over.

I didn't bother shutting the machine down last night, but left the power on in sleep mode for the night, no panics or shutdowns yet, hopefully this might do the trick until money can be found to get this fixed or even upgrade to the new model.

Before you give them your money...

Hi I've had similair problems. I have an intel iMac from the same period running Snow Leopard.
There 2 types of 'crashes' i experience. Either a total 'freeze' of the OS (If a youtube movie was playing i noticed it keeps playing)
The other crash is where it seems like my screen just turns black , The OS keeps responding, for example 'shift-alt-Q' did log me out.

I also noticed that the machine seems to be making more noise than before, as if it is working really hard.

Most likely, theres dust clogging up the air supply to the vents (its a small hole just below your power plug). If that hole is clogged your machine will get too hot and your screen will auto shut off.

So i'd say unplug the iMac , and vacuum any hole you find.
Correction & Update:
not below but ABOVE your power plug is the airfilter , very well hidden behind the iMac's stand...
Mine was very dusty, i cleaned it and my iMac stopped sounding like it it was sufficating! I'd say thats a good sign....

Also theres a neat widget that keeps track of your fans and temperatures you might wanna check out: iStat Pro, a Dashboard Widget by iSlayer

update: found another fan app that manages the fans as well:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23049/smcfancontrol

I'm gonna do the same and lets hope we save ourselves 400 bucks:p

good luck
