NOTE: This thread is for announcing new apps for the iPad.
It is not for asking "how to" questions, making comments as to how you like or dislike the hardware, etc. Any of those type posts may be moved or deleted.

Wired becomes the first magazine I've seen to announce they will have an iPad native version of their magazine out by summer.

Link here.

Hopefully only the first of many to come.

The Editor-in-Chief says "We think this is a game changer".

That seems to be the new buzz phrase. It's a shame because I wanted to call this post a game changer. ;)

Hopefully this will help to address the complaint(s) that I saw regarding the lack of magazines in the book store.

With the New York Times on board developing specifically for the iPad and now the first announcement by one of the major electronics mags, I think this is only the beginning of what I hope to be an avalanche.

I really believe it's possible that the iPad could surpass the total number of e-ink reader owners in it's first 12 months. If the rumors are true, and Amazon comes up with a way to put a free Kindle in the hands of every Prime member, maybe a run for their money.

There is little doubt that certain groups (ie. Amazon) are feeling some competition. It's hard to imagine they don't feel it considering they're going up against a company that seems to have tremendous luck (marketing ability) with just about every product they release. The fact that it's coming to the market with an already well-established user interface (for the most part) will help to lower the learning curve and increase the attractiveness of it to particular users.

I do think that the key to success for the iPad will be the 3rd party apps that are tailored to deliver readable content whether it be newspapers, magazines or books. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I love what I've seen so far with iWork being integrated for the iPad, and I hope we start to see full games on the iPad. Sims, Spore, Civilians, etc. would be nice on the iPad, and it definitely has the power to support the games. As for magazines, Game Informer, Empire, and GQ are just a few of the names I'd like to see in the App Store.

Being able to read magazines and comics is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the iPad. While I do enjoy getting that magazine in the mail, in just a few months I have accumulated a huge stack of magazines that I don't want to toss out. Thus having a digital copy would be perfect.

^^^I feel the same. I've been wanting an eReader for about a year now, and this is gonna be a life changer for me. (Sure, I might sound pathetic but if you saw my bookshelves and closet full of books and magazines I can't throw away you'd understand) I'm just curious about what format of eBook the iPad will support.

Also, as long as there is an App that lets us read .CBR files I'm happy. I'd love the ability to read my comic collection on the iPad.

It will support the ePub format.

That's awesome! I have a whole bunch of comics in that format, the iPad will be the perfect device to read them on.

Panelfly already gearing up their iPhone comic book app specifically for the iPad.

Gismodo article - and another look.

iVerseComics founder gets it, while Marvels Exec VP still doesn't get it - link.

In Marvels defense, they are trying to move more into the motion comics arena and don't see the iPad as the device for that, yet.

I will have a Joygasm if the ComicBookLover App works for the iPad. I have it for my MBP and it just works right.

1Password has also announced they're already hard at work on an iPad app.

If they have support for their 1Click bookmarks that'll be sweet.

They have released a 1Password Pro for the Touch and iPhone that allows copy and paste between 1Password and Safari and more. Check out the video for it here. Currently selling for half it's final pricing.

I'll definitely be getting Pages & Keynote for the iPad when it comes out. I have Bento on my iMac and my iPhone. I'm hoping they come out with a version for the iPad. I also have Mac Family Tree on my iMac and my iPhone.

I emailed the developers who indicated that they would be coming out with an iPad version shortly after release of the iPad. Would be great to have that bigger screen to work on the family geneology and to share it on the screen too :)

The Nova game demo looked pretty cool as well so I'm looking forward to see what the final product looks like and possibly purchasing it :) I don't have that many games on my iPhone. The ones I do have are all right but having a bigger screen sure would be nice :D

Bitolithic's ComicZeal V4 for the iPad is announced. It natively reads CBZ, ZIP, CBR, and RAR files.

Amazon is also already at work on an iPad specific Kindle app along with The Journal, The Times, Time Magazine and NPR apps.
