I have a user that was able to open PDFs in iphoto '08 on 10.4. We recently updated him to iPhoto '09 and 10.6. Now they are unable to work with .jpegs and pdfs without having to convert them.

What has change with '09 or 10.6? Is there a workaround?

I also noticed that the PDF printer not longer works in 10.6. The built in work around to print but then save as a PDF suggested by Adobe doesn't work. Acrobat 9 Save As Adobe PDF support in Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6)

They have to now open up distiller and drop the files in there to convert to PDF. This isn't as bad as not being able to open PDFs in iPhoto but it has added an extra step to their work flow.

You don't need third party software to create PDFs on a Mac. Just use the built in feature. Hit Print and then when the print dialog comes up, just select Save as PDF at the bottom of the dialog.
