I have been having a issue with my late 2007 macbook. It will give me the shutdown message or most times it will just shut off then turn on again. it will some times repeat several times before getting to the desktop. I need this macbook to be in prefect working order next sunday, so and help will be very helpful.

Here is a copy of the report it created the last time it shutdown:

I am not sure of what is wrong but research is saying logic board, CPU (soldered on logic board), or Memory. If anyone know how to read the report it will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

IA32 is the Intel architecture, 32 bit. MC is something else. I think memory chip. So, more than likely, based on the fact that it shows up 5 times indicates a meaning.

Based on what I can interpret, it appears that the CPU handled an invalid thread, though from what, I don't have a clue.

In essence, yes, it can be either of the three that you think is the problem. Take it to an Apple Retail Store, do what you did to get the KP. They'll chalk up those codes and find an answer.

It is not a curtain thing that will cause it, it is completely random. In fact it just restarted when I closed the lid. If I can get an idea from anyone let me know I am going to bring this in to work with me and check my memory. Unless, if someone know how to test the memory in this without the original install disc that comes with the computer, all I have is the Snow Leopard Upgrade Disc

If it rebooted with the lid closed and re-opened, the system isn't sleeping right- it's a RAM problem.

As for your OS disc- if it's grey, it's the disc that came with the system. Describe it in more detail though- I'm not sure what the upgrade discs look like.

The upgrade disc regardless should have the tools for checking the hardware. (I think).

That was the first time it did it closing the lid, it has done it on things like typing a paper, it has even done it doing nothing.

As for the disc, it is the one apple was selling for $29, it the one with a picture of a snow leopard on it. This is a retail disc that can be used on any system.

I will try to attempt to run the test off the disc I have, I will post with my results.

Thanks

Has anything changed hardware-wise since the problems started happening? Did you add memory recently?

It sounds as though you didn't originally have Snow Leopard on this machine. How did you go about doing the install? Did you use a straight upgrade, or a clean install?

It was a clean install it was done in october 2009. i have been running it with 500gb hdd and 4gb ram since april 2009 nothing has changed. i have just start my classes up again and i have been bringing this along and it did get a rough ride one day. my guess is maybe it was enough to knock one of the chips off of the memory which i have seen several times at work.

Edit: Now thinking about it i did have my keyboard changed not too long ago just before the first time this happened. I don't think this could be the problem but in a computer anything could cause a problem.

I would reseat the memory modules and run the Apple Hardware Test and see if it comes up with anything.

ok i have pulled out the memory and inspected it for burns or marks from spikes, visually they look fine. I have pc memory test tools and not one of them have started right 3 of them failed to start, one saw the memory as 3gb and when started locked up, and the last one said it detected more than 4GB and when ran at one point got stuck in one range at the end.

I don't have my original disc to run the Apple Hardware Test. if someone could point me to a download that would be great. I would like to know if it is memory which stick it is so i could move it into my dell laptop and replace both in my macbook. I have a macbook3,1. If more information is need to get the AHT let me know.

Thanks

We're not going to point you at any illegal downloads. You can purchase replacement System Discs from Apple. Keep them safe next time, they're important.

I'd say if the modules failed your testing, I'd swap them out entirely - particularly if they're no name, generic memory.

I wasn't looking for illegal, I noticed you can download the AHT for older g4 systems, and xserves legally off of apple's site. As for the memory I used Corsair memory, it is the only memory we recommend at my work as it is designed for gaming and the only problems we find with the memory we use is the power supply going up and taking out the motherboard along with most of the components. But I am going to get some to replace it and try to get it to cause problems and hope it fixes it as the logicboard is extremely expensive for mine (installing it myself).

Corsair was good quality memory at one time. It is odd for perfectly good modules to suddenly go bad, unless one is overclocking or is subject to a power surge.

Take a look here for some memory test options:

Ok I finally got a chance to test my memory. I moved it into my dell laptop and it had problem using all 4gb but separated each stick was able to be used as 2gb together it was about 3.3gb, Never seen this before. Then I run the test utility I use at work, and it crashed, I tested the 2gb that was in my dell and everything tested fine. So my conclusion is my memory is not able to run two sticks at a time, I am going to get some new memory and hope I was right.
