I do have a retail disc - This is a reply I've just received from "Apple Discussions":

"To answer your question, iWork doesn't have any type of serial number tying itself directly to your Mac. If you want to give it to your son, all you would have to do is delete it from your computer (as simple as dragging the iWork folder to the Trash), and give him the DVD."

That's what I wanted to say, but finding the serial number notice pop up gave me pause.
