3 and 4 finger swipe shuts off

I just bought a DVI monitor and hooked it up via mini display to HDMI and everything worked great until I realized my 3 and 4 finger swipe features weren't working at all. I disconnected my DVI monitor and the problem remained. It could possibly have nothing to do with the DVI connection, it's just when I realized the problem.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advanced.
