Okay so one of my friends borrowed my macbook over the weekend and I was looking at my dock and now it looks like this... Is that the normal dock? or did they do something to it? because I do not remember it looking like this...

What do you mean "normal"? It looks fine to me other than being a bit blurry but I'll assume that's just the picture. What looks out of the ordinary for you? That's the default style for Leopard and Snow Leopard - what version of OS X are you using?

Rule one never lend money, spouse or computer to friends.

They have used it as their own and placed icons in the Dock for iTunes, iCal, Microsoft Office etc etc in the Dock, and they can be just dragged off if you do not use them regularly. They are simply aliases and the original applications will be in your Applications Folder.

What is in the folders? Open them up and find out and trash any you do not want, and run Empty Trash. When you get the MB back the way you want it, suggest running Repair Permissions and making sure everything is okay.

If they did do anything it would have been customised

I'm using Snow Leopard. but the dock it self looks different. Those are the correct applications.

@TattooedMac

Now that's what it should look like right? now if it was how do I get the original back?

well maybe looking at these pics your's is bigger, but I can't spot anything else ... to change the size grab it by the little space to the right of your Photoshop icon

Drag the apps that you don't want on it off and drag the ones from the application folder that you do want on. Pretty easy...

When you drag one off you will see animated puff of smoke. Don't worry, the application is still in the app folder, you are just deleting it off the dock. Like a shortcut in windows. ;)
