Power Mac G4 MDD 1.5 GHZ (OC) 1.25 GB Ubuntu and Leopard INTEL SUCK IT!!
I'm getting a powermac mdd 1.25 ghz model from a friend. It needs RAM, PSU and HDD.

I have a suitable HDD already. I need to know what type of ram these take and if I can use a spare ATX PSU from '06. (Molex connectors of course)

You need 184-pin PC2700 (333 MHz) DDR SDRAM for your MDD dual 1.25ghz Mac.

I'm not sure about that spare power supply you have...but I'm going to hazard a guess that it won't work. Older Macintosh computers usually don't have too many parts common with Windows computers...and the MDD computers in the Powermac G4 lineup were even a bit more specialized.

Good luck,

- Nick

Okay then, do I have to get a specific psu for the mdd or is it compatible with any other models?

Yes...that's what I was referring to about the MDD model Powermac G4's being a bit more "specialized. It would be nice to take a power supply from an older Powermac G4 (non-MDD)...but they're different. Also, the MDD power supplies are actually a bit more uncommon...and thus are more expensive.

For example..I just searched e-Bay for MDD power supplies...and they're selling for $95 to $159 bucks...but at the same time a power supply for Powermac G4's before the MDD are selling for as little as $30 bucks.

Hope this helps,

- Nick

Any of these similar to what you found?:

Amazon.com: Samsung PSCF401601B(C) 360W Power Supply for PowerMac G4 MDD [APPLE P/N 614-0224]: Electronics

Apple Power Mac G4 MDD Samsung Power Supply - 360 Watts - eBay (item 270521804117 end time Feb-02-10 19:53:17 PST)

POWERMAC G4 MDD POWER SUPPLY 614-0224 PSCF401601B(C) - eBay (item 350293002054 end time Feb-11-10 14:21:02 PST)

Take special notice that the MDD power supplies in the last link are "NOT WORKING"...but a couple of the links seem to verify that the "Samsung PSCF401601B(C)" is a compatible power supply for MDD computers.

Be aware that MDD models are not worth chasing power supplies for as they all tend to be overpriced. Do a Google for other types of power supplies used in MDD models which may be cheaper.
