i have the intel 20 inch imac, the white one, and just ordered the 24 inch silver. the 20 had a dead logic board so can i take the ram from that one and use it on the 24?

Yep, should work.

Where did you order a 24" from? It has been discontinued and the new ones are 27".

Your RAM from the 20" will not work in either the 21" or 27" current model Macs.
