• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I was using quicktime and now I don't get any sound from it. The problem started before the 10.4.1 update but I figured the update would fix it. Well it didn't. Anyone have any idea why the sound wouldn't work? I know the video works, and I know that the volume is not muted. I am new (Dec. 04) to Mac's but I have figured them out pretty fast. Is there something I am over looking? Thanks for your help.

Is there any other app that doesn't have sound, like iTunes maybe? Does the Tiger OS have sound, like if you do something wrong and the computer prompts you with a sound? I might have had the same problem as you, but maybe not.

Every other application seems to be working fine. Error messages have noise, iTunes works perfectly for my morning alarm clock, iChat works, Adium has sound. It is just QuickTime that doesn't have sound on movies. Music files work through QuickTime but .mpg files do not seem to play sound, or play smoothly for that matter. They are jittery and the video seems to pause although the thing keeps moving along the bottom. Any ideas?

No guarantee, but launch GarageBand. Then try the video .mpg file. This worked for me in the past to fix my mac, which had no sound. I'm not sure, if my solution will help, but it's worth a shot.

Have you tried other formats of video files?
