Since I have a new battery for my ibook, I want to make sure it will last me until next next upgrade. Can you damage the battery if you let the laptop sit on the charger too long?

I usually charge mine to full, then unplug it and run off the battery until its completely discharged, then repeat. Is this the best routine?

Is it a Lithium Ion? They use a liquid paste of acid, and cores of metal, to produce a charge. They are put in cells. If the "bottom" cells are not used, the liquid paste turns into crystals that cannot be used, so the battery will no longer cycle into the deeper cells. Apple recommends, at least once a week, to let the battery drain completely, and recharge it. I personally do it more frequently.
