my "solution" is to restart the **** thing.

So if I understand correctly, you have two networks-- a Windows network and an Airport network-- correct?

Your iBook connects to both networks without a problem and the iMac only connects to the Windows network, right?

Is your Airport router (or whatever Apple calls them) set to only allow specific MAC addresses to connect? Or is there a WEP key in place on the Airport that's not in place on the Windows networks' router?

The first thing I would look at is the configuration on the Airport router to see what security settings are in place. (I don't use an Airport router on my network, so I can't speak to how it's configured.)
