That's one that keeps jams, jellies and preserves.

Jar = Java Archive (see here). Java developers sometimes distribute their apps as jar files.

I suggest you try a program called the The Unarchiver. Its free and works to unarchive many different formats including .rar files.

ok thanks. Now, the .rar files have become .nrg. I looked it up, but am not sure what will open an .nrg file.

.NRG is a Nero Image file. Some people have said that just renaming it to .ISO works but I am not really convinced and never tried it. Nero is a very nice burning App on Windows just in case you did not know that.

If you don't mind paying a bit, BetterZip is the nicest archive/un-archive application I have ever used.

You're starting to get into a grey area concerning the legality of whatever you're trying to download. You might not get an answer, or one that won't help you.

If it's free software, get it from the developer. If it's a commercial product, buy it from the maker or from a store.

Oh sorry about that...I am not trying to download illegal files I promise. Sorry if I offended anyone. My Master's Thesis requires some extremely rare books form the Middle Ages (thus in the public domain) and I have tried about everything else to find them, so thought maybe I will try a torrent lol.

Ok last question on this topic I promise. If I have an .iso on a CD, how do I get my Macbook to "open" or "play" the file in the .iso?
