hi all,
just a quick question, have just installed the WD Scorpio Blue 640 GB drive to expand my poultry stock 250gb as i had heard good things about it.only problem is, it's pretty **** noisy, yep i expected the 640 to be a bit louder than the stock 250GB fitted to my mbp but it s a huge difference.at first i though i had left my fan setting on high but no it was the allegedly quiet whisper drive that appears to be shouting or is that it being quiet.anyone else come across this???
Me thinks i will be returning for a replacement once i've wiped it.

Did you read the reviews here? I think 3 to 4 people complained about the noise, and most of them were MBP owners.

I think it's great that the capacity is that large. Too bad it's not larger and well not 7200RPM. :p

cheers, anyone recommend a reasonably quiet drive ( i know that this may be suggestive as everyone is different) as i tend to watch movies & programmes on mbp and theres no way you could sit and do that in the quiet with that amount of noise coming from a hdd.yep great capacity and they are doing 750gb & 1tb drive, how loud are they????????

thanks for your help in advance......

Hitachi drives have a very good rep indeed, so may be worth looking for a suitable one and checking for reviews.

I have a 7200RPM Seagate HDD right now in my MB, and it's just as quiet as the stock 5400RPM drive. No excessive heat either. ^-^" Too bad it's only 320GB.

I might upgrade when they release a 1TB 7200 RPM. :p

hi all,
received a replacement drive from amazon & i can't believe WD are saying this is a quiet drive, its as loud as the first.so it must be the standard noise level.my stock fujitsu 250gb is virtually undetectable to the ear unless you place your head on the mbp.
Sending both back, anyone tried the fujitsu 500gb or indeed the hitachi????:Grimmace:
