Handbrake doesn't demux like what the OP appears to want, handbrake will transcode.

Demuxing is the process of taking a file that contains both video and audio and splitting it into separate files for video, audio, etc.

Now, if the OP mis-spoke and just wants to convert the file to a different container/possibly different codec, handbrake will work.

I honestly don't know of what to use to demux a flv.

Now you can transcode the flv to something like an mkv, then use mkvtools which contains mkvextract (although you have to use the command line) and extract the audio/video/etc.

There was a little app called BBDemux but not sure if it still works in modern versions of OSX. If the FLV were converted into say Quicktime or other formats, QuickTime Pro will let you rip the audio separate from the video, but the OP wants a free solution. I will check and see if BBDemux is still around.

It's been a long time but I did way back need the music from a video I made and it did the trick. Not sure it will work with FLV though, but that can be converted.

I generally use Quicktime Pro with the Perian plugin so I can open the FLV directly in QT, then edit from there. :) But still, not free.

Yes, that does work for me also. Since like you said, the OP is looking for something free I did not mention it but it does work.
