As the title suggests, I want to know if its possible to switch off the keyboard illumination when I'm watching a movie on my MBP, and if so, how would I do this please?

Thanks in advance

I love Lab Tick. One of those must have apps for anyone with a backlit keyboard.

He distributes it free, but toss him a few bucks if you find it useful. It's the only app of it's kind out there that I'm aware of.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)

I put in a link with it, but I couldn't stamp my name on it (so to speak) due to not having a MBP myself, so, good to know.
Question: Does it turn off the backlight as well as controlling brightness?

Yes, it provides full control over the backlight from off to full from the menu icon. I use it all day as lighting conditions change. The onboard sensors just never did get it right for my taste.

It is one of only two items that I have added to my login items and has remained there for the long term.

Just an update on this, I installed Lab Tick on my MBP, and although it allowed me to adjust my keyboard illumination last night to off while watching a film, the illumination would randomly come back on, but flickering frantically.

I ensured the settings were ticked so that OS X was disabled from turning illumination back on, but it appears that Lab Tick confused my MBP, and worries me slightly, as I don't want to damage my MBP.

Any idea why its doing this?

Does your MBP not have the shortcut keys to turn down/up the keyboard illumination? It's the F5 and F6 keys. On my MBP I just have to press F5 until it turns off.

No problem. Everyone was new once. I'm glad it solved your problem.
