Somehow my trash suddenly became full of stuff- I hope it was mainmenu clearing out stuff but I'm not sure. Before I dump them I just want to check. Can anyone tell me what these are/mean and do I need to keep them? They were all in folders called "recovered files". For now I've taken them out of the trash and put them on the desktop. Thanks.

It's reasonably safe to assume that anything with tmp in it is expendable. Word work files are like 'a work in progress', and are redundant. What that gallery is I've no idea. If your Mac is operating normally with those files in the Trash, ie. before you pulled them out of there, then it's also safe to conclude that they can be deleted. Leave them in the Trash for a day or three, if no problems, nuke them!
