• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Video on iChat dropping?

Okay so whats the deal with iChat dropping the video conference connection?
I have an old hi8 "palcorder" going through an av-to-dv converter (avc110 I think is the brand) - I can use the camcorder fine to convert videos with iMovie and make dvds and such but when it comes to streaming it goes bye-bye after 10 seconds.

Has anyone else experienced this? - I've googled it and there are a couple of people with the same issue, but they arent using analog video cameras which leads me to believe it isnt the av-to-dv adapter.. but who knows

I don't think iChat is designed to be used with an analog camera through a bridge. I use an iSight and have never had the connection drop on me

You can use ichatusbcam to trick ichat into using USB web cams in ichat. I don't know if it will allow an analog device to work, but they mention the interview lite on their site so maybe it works. anyway its shareware so you test your set up with the free trial and then buy it if it works and delete it if it doesn't. I use it with a Logitech USB cam and it works great.

Good luck.

Edit: you can download ichatusbcam from: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
