hi,

specs before I give the problem.

MacBook
snow leopard 10.6.2.

I was clearing my ext hard drive and moved the backups from my time machine folder to the trash. When I go to empty the trash it says error 800.

When I disconnect my hard drive the files vanish from my trash. When I reconnect they're back again. The files aren't anywhere on my ext hhd except in the trash.

Has anyone had this problem before and if so what can I do to empty it.

It seems like the backup files have moved to the trash instead of going there to be deleted and I can't remove them. If I drag them to desktop they only copy over.

If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

You can use the sudo command, but try this first:
when the trash is full, go to the finder, and click finder (top left) and "secure empty trash.

if that doesnt work, although dont do so on any other occasion, go into terminal and enter: $sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash/*
