Hi all,

My iMac was recently stolen in a string of burglaries in my local area.

Fortunately it was configured for use with back to my mac, and I have found that I can mount it as a disk image on my other computer and access the files in the public folder.

The question is: how do I find the IP address of my stolen iMac? If I know the IP address then the police can very quickly track them down, but I have no idea where to look to find the IP address.

The disk image has since disappeared, so I'm guessing that the computer has been turned off (would the OS have alerted them that someone was accessing the computer?). Is there a log anywhere that lists the IP addresses that have been accessed recently? I am guessing that the more detailed stuff like that would have to be accessed through the terminal, which I can do if someone can give me specific instructions. If the computer does re-appear as a network drive, how would I check what it's IP address is?

I am so close to catching them, but cannot do it without this last vital piece of information. Any help that you can give would be much appreciated by both myself and the police!

Thanks in advance!

But how do I find the IP address of a computer that I am accessing over the internet? Will the IP address of external drives also be displayed when I use ipconfig?

And yes, IP addresses do seem to change, but I don't understand how often or why.....

Thanks.
