Quick question everytime I decide to secure trash my trashcan it ends up deleting something like 12,000 something almost everytime...how can I fix this? is this a problem

Well its obviously something you have put in the trash ... Watch and look at what your trashing.....
Might be something important and linked to other apps.
Do you know what your trashing ??

yeah small items but I dont why so much is in there...I secure trsshed last night and today I deleted 6 pictures and it came back telling me it was deleting 6,662 files

10.6 Snow Leopard I emptied it regularly and nothing happened just gave me the total amount of items I was deleting. I just have the problem with secure trashing

Just tried it on mine and secure empty was normal. How about downloading and installing this to see if it helps.

Somebody here once tried explaining this to me and it made a bit of sense, though not entirely. They said that emptying securely meant that the space in which the data you're erasing isn't just waiting to be occupied by new data again (when u regular delete the data is still physically there but is waiting to be written over by newly acquired data).

The secure method pre-erases the trashed data by writing over it with 0's and 1's, though I'm not sure of how many times. So I guess the extra number of what would appear to be files being erased, may not be files at all. At least that's what I'm inclined to believe.
