After upgrading to osx v,10.4.11 the cd, dvd keyboard drive control key does not work unless I also hold down the option key. What to do?

Firstly, check Universal Access settings in System Preferences. Something may have inadvertently been turned on there to assist something you don't actually need.
Then go to Keyboard & Mouse in SysPrefs > Keyboard Shortcuts to see if Option has been set as a modifier key. It's not a bad idea to Restore Defaults first, and then make changes you might want.
