I know the infinity symbol on my mac is option+5 but I am trying to do an online math course and everytime I press option 5 i get capital A in a box. Yet when I copy it anywhere else it shows up as infinity symbol. It is a Mathxl program an will not accept anything but the exact symbol and copy and pasting doesnt work either. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the "Character Viewer" from System Preferences - Language and Text - Keyboard Viewer - Character Viewer - Math Symbols?
