Hello..

I recently bought my first mac..thank you.. it's brilliant
It's a 13" MacBook Pro (October 09') that comes with 160 HD which i find not enough so i ordered a HITACHI 500 GB that will (hopefully) suit my mac

My question is :
Will i be able to install mac os x operating system on my brand new HITACHI 500 GB (assuming i'm lucky and did ordered the HD i needed to) only with the CD i got when i bought the mac the one that says: "mac os x install DVD" ?

Thank you guys, sorry for my stupidness
Omri.

Hi Omri and welcome to MacForums! :)

Assuming you ordered a 2.5" SATA drive it will fit i your MacBook Pro no problems at all...

To install OS X, you would insert the "Mac OS X Install DVD" and boot from it, then once it starts up, go to Utilities on the menu bar and choose Disk Utilities.

From there, select the drive on the left,
Then click the 'Erase' tab,
Give the drive a name,
Format using the 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled) filing system,
Click okay and then continue on with the setup.

Hope that helps, its actually really straight forward when you're running through it...

And to add to the collection, Hitachi make very good drives. Enjoy!

Not in my experience. At work, we refer to them as "Deathstars". Rarely have I had one live past 18 months in continuous operation over hundreds of drives. And when they die, they do so spectacularly - no bad sectors, just the drive is no longer recognized on the bus or it' ka-klacking away, and sounding like a time bomb.

Yeah, well, we have to have at least one dissenter - I guess. Your response is really going to help. "18 months in continuous operation" is a long way ahead for the OP.
