Well I have been dealing with kernel panics for a while now and it has gotten to the point where it occurs when I look at my MBP the wrong way. The latest and greatest in kernel panic logs came up with this:

Interval Since Last Panic Report: 31090 sec
Panics Since Last Report: 2

My MBP model is late 2006 running 2.16 GHz Core Duo with 2 GB of ram and a brand new 500 GB HDD I installed myself (my old one crapped out with read errors and I am no longer under AppleCare so I opted to save time and money and do it myself). Also a note before I continue on is that the kernel panics were occurring months before I replaced the HDD (kernel panics started around September 25 and i replaced the hard drive around thanksgiving)

What i have done so far in my troubleshooting is the obvious PRAM reset which has become a daily thing for me now whenever my mac doesn't start-up properly. I've also done the whole holding the power button for 5 seconds while the battery and power cable are disconnected (SMC reset?). Prior to the constant kernel panics i sent my computer into an authorized mac place near where i go to school (BlueRidge Mac) and they replaced the logic board for the 4th time and also replaced a faulty SuperDrive. As of now my right fan will fail occasionally but is currently working more often than not and my SuperDrive will not burn or read any type of writable media (so much for a replacement...). I have also run the Apple Hardware Test a few times and the only error it ever came up with was to let me know my right fan wasn't working but it has either fixed itself or was a fluke. TechTool doesn't find anything out of the ordinary nor does DiskWarrior. DiskUtility also reports everything to be fine and fully functional. At this point I am thinking that it may be faulty RAM as there have been a handful of times (4 at most) where i start-up my mac and it will give me the 3 beeps but upon restarting it has never reoccurred. I'm at a loss at this point as i do not find my MBP to be a reliable machine and I am afraid at any point in time that if I pick it up to move it it will just freeze up and give me the friendly notice in four different languages telling me to restart my computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to research the panic codes but have not come up with anything. Thanks in advance to any help given with my issue. If this isn't fixable then it might be time to retire this machine. Also on a side note - my fans will run at full speed even when idling. It's been an issue for over a year now and everything I take it in the repair people say its an issue with the logic board and as soon as they replace it they run as they normally should but just like clockwork they go back to their annoying loud selves in a matter of days.

Cheers,
Philip

[UPDATE]

So i read the post about someone's MBP not turning on after they switched out the ram and they tried a SMC reset by the method if the battery is not removable. I figured it couldn't hurt so i tried it as well and to my surprise everything has been running very smoothly. No kernel panics yet AND my Superdrive can read writable media. I'm about to try and burn something. Whether or not these issues were related doesn't matter to me its more a matter of it's fixed. Hopefully my mac isn't playing a sick joke on me just to get my hopes up.

Cheers.
