I've been having a continual problem with my Mac OS X: In the last few days I've been trying to open Microsoft Word (either by opening the app or by opening word docs) and it starts to open, suddenly quits, and shows me this message:

"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Then, I click the box where it says "recover my work and restart Microsoft Word" but the exact same thing happens. I've reported the problem, but nothing is working.

Here's what I get when I go to more information-- (PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP)

Trash the MS Word preference for starters. It's found at User > Library > Preferences > com.microsoft.Word.plist. Then, a) reboot your computer and b) try reopening MS Word app (not any saved docs).

If that hasn't restored MS Word function, try the repair permissions process, preferably using Onyx http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html.

Do you have the MS Office install disks? If so, try a reinstallation, but FIRST, you must uninstall, using the application bundled in the MS Office (Remove Office).

Keep us posted as to progress (or otherwise).

I went to delete the com. as you said, but it wasn't listed in that folder. I also went to that website, but it said it was no longer available. And I do not have the install disks...

Did you at some stage try to delete MS Word? This topic has arisen before, ie. "MSW is not working as it should, therefore I'll delete it".

Sorry about that defunct link, there was an issue with it a month or two back, I'm using a different computer at present (see my sig), and the correct one is on my eMac. Try a Google search for Onyx instead.
