I know it matters for audio and video discs, but does it matter which speed you burn at for data? I'm using an external drive thru firewire.

Your Mac's Specs
MacMini 14.3, 8.1 & 4.1, OS 13.5, 10.14, & 10.11 & 10.6; Macbook Pro 8.2, OS 10.12.
You may notice in the burning app you're using, that listed speeds may appear differently, ie. some are greyed out. That usually relates to the type of burning you're doing.

Data is usually safe at 32x with Mac, maybe 48x. Personally, I don't try anything above 32.
