Hi all,

I have a new 27 inch 3.06 GHz Imac.

I have an older VGA flat monitor I want to hook up to use dual monitors..
I bought the mini- display port to VGA adaptor.

This is the problem...

in display preferences there is no "detect displays" option. why not?

It has one resolution setting of 2560x 1440 and that's it!

Am I missing something?

iMac came with Snow Leopard but I had to install Leopard as my software is not Snow Leopard compliant yet.. could this be the problem?

Someone told me that this new iMac is only designed to work with Snow Leopard and that I was lucky to get anything working with Leopard.

Any help is much appreciated.

You answered your own question. The new iMac 27" and 21.5" models are specifically designed to work with Snow Leopard. You can't downgrade the operating system without some cost to hardware functions. That's the result of lack of proper drivers. Reinstall Snow Leopard and upgrade your software to newer versions which support Snow Leopard, if possible. If not possible, look for alternatives.

Regards.
