G'ay and welcome to the forums.

Only if it is an after market CPU update from Maxpower, OWC and similar companies so we need more information. If it is G5 CPU no way period. Here is a link to OWC CPU upgrade page:-

It's says it's a newertech G4 CPU upgrade 1.8 ghz. I just didn't know if it would work or not on a sawtooth because I thought it could be too big of a jump

No it will be just fine but depending on what OS the G4 has been using you may have to update the Firmware to version 4.2.8. Is there any operating system on the machine and if so is it OS X of any description? To check this out with an OS installed select Anout this Mac from the apple icon in the menu bar, select More Info and the first window should show the Boot ROM version. This needs to be 4.2.8 and probably f1 after that.

Look very much like a G5 CPU so the answer would be no. The only processors that will fit the Sawtooth are 400MHz, 45)MHz and 500MHz CPU's from Sawtooth and Gigabit Ethernet computers. None of the 133MHz system, bus speed from later machines, or faster, or G5's will work hence checking out the link from OWC.

When you check out the price of CPU upgrades at $400-$500 you will get a much faster dual processor G5 for that much and that is the problem with CPU upgrades, cost has priced them out of the market place. Did use a 1.4GHz CPU upgrade from OWC some five years ago and the unit was okay, just, for running Leopard.

The newertech G4 CPU would probably work. Do you have a URL to it? I know they made upgrade CPU's for the Sawtooth.

Like Harry stated that Newertech will work. There are 5 days left though and it might go quite high in price at the end. Do watch it though.

Yep and expect it to get too $200-$300. Still too dear as the G4 will still be stuck with the 100MHz system bus speed, the 128GB HDD limitation and a 2X AGP slot.

Did you get the Tiger install disc with the machine? You need to boot from the install DVD and run Repair Disk. Can also be a sign of a failed hard drive.

Well either no operating system is on the machine or you have drive or technical problems and can't help without that Tiger disc sorry brownskid2. In fact to do that ,allegedly installing Mac OS X.5 and not supplying a disc, may well be illegal. The system install disc is the greatest trouble shooting tool there is.
