backup recommendations

I used carboncopycloner with 10.3, and probably will with tiger, but i need a backup solution to back up specific directories. i have deja vu, but i can't get it to work. a how to for that would be great.

any freeware apps?

well, deja vu is currently the only one that allows you to save to a specific place, like a folder on an external hd instead of to the hd's main folder.

in that case, you'd need an app, deja vu actually, and save it to a folder so that you have the invisible files as well, then create a disk image from that folder and burn that, if it will fit on a dvd, I doubt it unless its a bare bones system and no files or many settings changed, and no apps, and even if you can burn it to a dvd, you cant boot from a dvd.

I use Tri-BACKUP and that does what you want also. It's not free though.
