• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What sort of files do you want to burn ??

Why not goto finder>file>new burn folder and drag files into that .......

I would need to get to my external to tell you the file type. I cannot remember off the top of my head. They are not a file type i normally associate with movies. will post what they are when i can get to them.

To clarify, I am trying to back up my movies on DVDs because my roommates have now scratched the **** out of 2 of my DVDs. but i don't want to make it so they are not accessible. Just leaving out my copies. while i can keep the originals in good shape.

Oh Ok ... Just be careful about what you want to talk about in this forum, as it doesnt allow chat about ripping DVD's , breaking the encryption and such is illegal ...

yeah i read that stickied thread at the top. I don't think what I'm doing is illegal.

The file type is a TS folder. I honestly am kind of new to the whole DVD ripping thing.

The US DMCA forbids the breaking of any type of encryption or protection mechanism. As such, it is effectively illegal to rip DVDs, even those you own. And since we follow US law here on these forums, this discussion is now over.
