I bought 1Gb of ram for my Imac and I tried to install it today with little to no luck at all. I bought the 1Gb off of Amazon.com but when I received it I didn’t realize it was the wrong card until I already tried to install it. Now my Mac wont turn on at all…all I get is a black screen with a beeping alarm. Any advice?

Is that 1GB stick still in your iMac?

Did you try putting back the old RAM?

If it was the wrong RAM, did you have to force it in? It's possible that if the RAM was different enough and you were "determined" enough that you may have done some damage. What model iMac do you have and what RAM did you purchase?

At this point try to locate an Apple Authorized Service Provider to get an estimate on the repair. Of course they would have to take a look at it first in person to give you an estimate. I would use the Apple store as a last option. The smaller apple repairs shops are a bit cheaper on labor.

Do you have a older iMac? My 09' takes DDR3 1066mhz....Could that be an issue?...Occam's razor!!! "The simplest explanation for some phenomenon is more likely to be accurate than more complicated explanations."

Rick PS, The Ram may not be fully seated but then again the latches wouldn't engage
