iTunes doesn't allow sync of photo anymore!?

Dear forum,

I have been happily connecting and syncing my iPhone photos iPhoto until recently.
When opening iPhoto, the tool doesn't appear to recognize my phone as a camera anymore as it doesn't ask me to download the latest roll!? I was unable to find a manual solution either.

What could have happened there??? How can this be resolved again?

BTW: restarted both the phone and the computer numerous times already :-(

Please, can anyone please help? How can I get my photos from the iPhone on to my Apple or iPhoto???
