Can I take the RAM from my PB G4 to my new MB Pro?

I did a search of the forum and did not find the answer.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a refurb MacBook Pro and I was wondering if I can take the RAM from my PB G4 and use it in the MB Pro (the refurb model only comes with 1GB).

I have 3GB RAM in my PB G4 currently. How can I find out if they would be compatible BEFORE I buy the refurb?

If they aren't compatible, I might go a different route.

I don't think that would work at all. Even using the last G4 Powerbook released and the first Mac Book released the memory specs for type of memory used don't match.

BTW Mactracker - get info on any Mac is a great application for tracking/answering this type of question. It has a wealth of information on every Mac model released as well as minimum system requirements for every major release of the OS.

No, you cannot take the ram and just switch them, they are not compatible.

The last PowerBook G4 model released used PC2-4200 200-pin 333MHz Ram

The first gen. (non-unibody) MacBook Pros used PC3-5300 200-pin 667MHz Ram

And the current gen. (unibody) MacBook Pros use PC3-8500 204-pin 1066MHz Ram

Do NOT even try it as you will damage either the modules, slots or MBP.

Thanks for the replies. I was pretty sure it was a long shot but I thought I would ask anyway.

Now the big question is whether to go new or refurb and spring for the extra RAM. New comes fully loaded but the refurb only comes with 1GB.
