I read something about being able to increase the clock speed on the graphics integrated card on the new Macbook through OS X. Is this correct, and if so how?

Nvidia's System Tools will allow you to overclock it but I think you can only run the program in Windows. The settings would stick while running OSX tho I think. It's been a while since I did any overclocking on anything.

Are you thinking of over clocking the chips themselves or simply switching from one chip to the higher performance one?

If you simply want to change to the Mac Book's higher performance chip go to the Energy Saver preference pane. In the graphics section choose the "Higher Performance" option. You will need to log out of your account then log back in for the change to take effect.

That only works with MacBook Pros, and only 15" and 17" models with dual graphics.

If your graphics chip isn't fast enough, don't try to overclock it. Just buy a faster computer. It's cheaper than cooking your current one.

I stand corrected. I misread the OPs machine as a Mac Book Pro. Thanks for catching that error.

Your advice about not cooking the graphics chip by over clocking it is right on point. I have always been nervous about performance/heat issues in over clocked desktop models. I'd certainly be nervous about that in a laptop.

OK thanks. It is not an option in energy saver, so I guess it is not an option on the Macbook. Thanks anyway!
