I get a number of comics in the .cbr/.cbz format.

I also deal with .rar files.

After upgrading to 10.6.1, I now have the hilarious (not) issue where, since the cbr/cbz files are, effectively, specialized rar files, Stuffit Expander tries to open them, instead of letting me read them in FFView.

If I change the file for opening the cbr/cbz files to open in FFView... FFView also tries to open my RAR files, because they're type 'rar'.

Anyone have any idea how I can get my file associations to work by extention again, instead of by kind? This worked with no problems before I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Thank you.

Same way as Leopard.
File > Get info > on the type of file you want to open. (or command i or on the right click context menu)
Set > Open with > to the app you want to use then > Change all.
Repeat with the other types of files.
Some Prefs need resetting after updating to SL..you may well find others. :)

The problem here is that since the .cbz, .cbr and .rar files all are the 'kind' RAR, changing one changes all three apparently based on the 'kind'. This is the part that is driving me insane.
