I have an OEM copy of Windows XP from my old Dell that broke. I tried installing it on my new Macbook (2 gb memory) and it seemed to download Windows properly, however, the computer seemed to really slow down and the cursor was not as responsive. Do you think it is because it was not a retail version, as Apple requests? If so, I would have an unanticipated expenses of $100-$200 to purchase Windows. Anyone know?

Technically you aren't suppose to use that OEM copy of Windows on any other machine besides the one it came with. If the machine dies so should the disk.

The only OEM version you're allowed to install is the one for System Builders. The OEM copies that come with retail machines like Dell and HP are tied to those specific machines and should not be used for anything else. Those discs contain machine specific drivers and programs that could cause all sorts of problems.

If you want to install Windows, then I would suggest buying a copy of Windows that will work properly with Boot Camp.

NewEgg currently has an OEM System Builder's full version of XP Home SP-3 for $89.99 less a $5.00 discount and free shipping. LINK Probably the best deal you're going to find on a new copy which will work with Boot Camp.

Regards.
