Apple TV issue

Hi there, I have an ATV. Just wanted to know if apple use H.264 format for their movies, is there a carrier for the file used, i.e MKV? Ive removed the restrictions put in place by apple and have H.264 movies on my ATV but carried by a MKV, the resolution of the movies are 720p but they wont play properly. Was wondering why apple ones do and the ones ive acquired dont?

So you hacked your ATV and it won't do what you want and you want us to help?

Somehow, I suspect that this probably violates the EULA of the ATV and pretty much can't be discussed here.
