I've been using one of these for the last 6 or 7 years (yes, the same one, it lasted that long). It finally went south last night. Fortunately I bought a spare about 3 years ago and it's been sitting in my closet. Now that I am using my spare, I wanted to buy another backup. Check out how much Amazon wants for these:

Amazon.com: Microsoft D67-00001 Trackball Optical Mouse: Electronics

There are 2 on E-Bay, neither has the ball. I have bid on the cheap one, but the other is $168 without the ball!

I have to admit though, I do love these. Best mouse I have ever used, even if it IS made by Microsoft.

Interesting yet the Logitech models (Which I also love and own) are WAY cheaper! I wonder why they want so much?

The logitech models, which I use at work and on my iBook when on the road, feel cheaper and only have 3 buttons. There is something to be said for customization of multiple button mice and this one just feels well made. I'm just amazed they cost that much. I bought my backup for around $65 3 years ago...

Baggss, my older Logitech Trackman Marble has been abused now for 8 years and is still going strong, so it must be made well. :D

I have a friend with that Microsoft one and it's a nice one also.

If I read the copy right, the Microsoft mouse is optical on the track ball, and optical on the mouse too. I bet the cheaper ones are mechanical on the track ball.

Ditto for me - I have the same one and it has served me for at least 5-6 years.

So utterly useless for me. Cause I tend to use my mouse with both hands. Not at the same time of cause. I just swap whenever I feel like it. But can the massive ball in the linked mouse be removed for cleaning? Optical ball or not still would like to know.

I remove mine regularly and clean it - no problems (Logitech Trackman Marble).

Scary mouse price. Is it really that good?
I guess so!

I've been using the Logitech MX1000 on my desk since 2004 and it still works and treat! I'd definitely recommend Logitech to anyone!
I'm also using the 9 year old Apple Pro Mouse that came with my G4 Cube and its still going strong. I might have to swap to a 2 button mouse at some point, but there is no rush!

I've never used a trackball, I guess I'm too young and too much of a casual computer user to have ever bothered. Plus at that price, I'd spend it on something a lot cheaper!

Yes. It is easily removable and you do need to clean the rollers and the sensor window inside from time to time.

The original MSRP was $44.95, so it wasn't always stupidly expensive. Like I said, I bought the one I'm now using for about $65 3 years ago so even then it wasn't so bad.

Either way, most (if not all) Microsoft mouses/keyboards/controllers are made by Logitech anyway, so the two can't exactly be compared in terms of quality. And that mouse looks pretty nice, but $100 is pushing it a bit :p.
