Hello Mac-Forums :D

So, I've got 3 macbooks in my family, and the mac design for chargers really sucks.

2 of them broke, and the third one only charges half the time.

Upon breaking, one of them smoked for a bit, then stopped working. I'm assuming that short circuited.

So could I just cut that part out, and splice the wires together? My sisters leave for Spain tomorrow, and short of spending $150 on new chargers, can't I do that?

Here's both of them, the only problem is up there.

If I could just take a scissor, cut the wires and then splice the wires back together, would that fix it? I've never done this before, so it would help if someone pointed me to a guide on how to do this. Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend it. The power adapters are not designed to be serviceable. The risk of damaging the notebook is just too great, not to mention the risk of a fire.

Take a look at this document and see if it helps:

My best bet, apparently, is to bring it in and ask for a replacement.

Thanks for the warning and quick reply, I'll see if I can get to them today.
