Osx can't cancel transfer!

I was transferring pictures from my trip to my Macbook.
The problem is that it doesn't stop transferring I wanted it stop abruptly cause it was taking too long. I had to go somewhere!
I can't cancel it!
I can't restart it!
Removing the battery doesn't work it restarts apparently is smart enough to not stop crapping up!
Note I want my pictures in tact on that hd cause its the only copy have for it.
Is there a fix for it?

Are talking about downloading pics from your camera to your Macbook?

Yes I was transferring my photos from my Sd card to my macbook.
It took awhile from transferring so I canceled it.
Doesn't seem to work!
Tried restarting it doesn't want to restart.
Tried pulling out the battery that too didn't work. It just saved state and returned to the same problem!
